There are some people out there who can’t help but be annoyed with small noises. Whether it’s the sound of someone eating, the drumming of fingers on a table, clearing a throat, or anything of that nature, it can be a bit of a pet peeve for many. Turns out there’s a reason for that.

Research from Northwestern University in Chicago demonstrated that those who have a heightened sensitivity to sounds are more creative people.

The name of this condition is ‘misophonia’, and the research suggests that more creative people have a harder time filtering out random noises. So if you’re being annoyed at small noises, it’s not weird; it’s science!
